Notes on submitting the application

The users undertake to enter all personal information truthfully.

Consent to electronic communication

The entire process of the application for EXIST Start-up Germany is conducted electronically through our Internet platform and all correspondence is done by e-mail. During the application process, the applicant undertakes to check his/her account as well as e-mail on a regular basis.

Privacy Policy

The Technische Universität Berlin is very concerned with protecting personal information. We process personal information that is collected when visiting our website in accordance with the legal provisions on data collection, particularly those of the Berlin Data Protection Act  (§§ 12, 13 BerlDSG)  and Privacy and the German Telemedia Act (Telemediengesetz (TMG)).

When logging on to the EXIST Start-up Germany application platform, all personal information and the application is collected for administration purposes until 30.06.2017.

The following informs you on how, to what extent and for what purpose we collect and process personal information.


The EXIST Start-up Germany application platform is operated by opencampus.net. Every time pages on our website are accessed, the servers temporarily save the following information in log files:

  • IP address of accessing computer
  • Date and time of access
  • Name, URL and amount of data transmitted
  • Access report (requested file transferred, not found etc.)
  • Type of browser and operating system (if transmitted by the accessing browser)
  • Website from which our site was accessed (if transmitted by the accessing browser)

The complete logging data from the website existstartupgermany.com will be saved for 2 weeks for security purposes. Anonymized data will be saved for 3 months for statistical purposes.

Data Security

The server cluster is situated at the Leibniz-Rechenzentrum in Garching bei München. It is a virtualized surrounding in an infrastructure-as-a-service cloud. The servers are situated on the Server-Hardware of the Leibniz-Rechenzentrum which is located in the air-conditioned safety area of the Rechnungszentrum with uninterruptable power supply, access protection facilities, fire detection and extinguishing system and 24-hour surveillance.

The data is secured according to TLS-standards, all transactions are encrypted.


When visiting our website, the browser saves so-called session cookies to your computer. Cookies are small text-only files that serve to make our services more user-friendly and efficient. Cookies do not damage your computer and also do not contain viruses. Cookies will be deleted after closing your browsing session. You can disable the function for saving cookies in the settings of your browser.

Processing and sharing of personal information

The registration platform collects personal information and your application. This information is stored for internal purposes with opencampus GmbH  for processing the  applications and for  statistics by TU Berlin and reports to the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy until December 2017 within the framework of the EXIST Start-Up Germany program.

The application process contains obligatory data. The upload of additional documents such as the pitch deck is mandatory.

The personal data and the application forms submitted during the application process will be transferred to a jury board in either Berlin or Munich. The jury boards will be listed on the webpage www.existstartupgermany.com. In addition, the project lead at TU Berlin will have access to all applications submitted. Furthermore, the project coordinator in Munich, Tina Hoefinghoff, will have access to personal data and applications submitted for Munich.

Enquiry and amendment

You may, in writing and free of charge, enquire about the personal information about you that has been stored. You also have the right to have false information amended, blocked and deleted.
Deleting or blocking information from our system is only possible during the sign up process (before being added to the application process) or following a request by the user to be taken off the doctoral list. The user must submit this request in writing.

You have the right to request the deletion of all your data at any time of the process, however this will exclude you from the application process.
